The Magic of Hustling
The magic of hustling is the magic of freedom. It’s the autonomy that comes from the ability to use your unique combination of skill, motivation, and resources to create your own destiny. It is the fruit of desire, sweat, and maybe a little bit of luck. Magicians may never reveal their secrets, but part of the vision for this blog is to pull back the curtain a little and reveal the secrets that lead to successful hustles.
First, what is a hustle? A hustle is basically any endeavor that you undertake to make money outside of your regular stream of income. It could be as simple as babysitting for your neighbor, or as complex as launching an international brand. Any effort that brings you a few extra dollars for pocket money outside of your regular job qualifies as a hustle.
Who can hustle? Take a look in the mirror. Do you have a desire to have a little more freedom in your life? A little more autonomy? The ability to say goodbye to your job before they downsize next quarter? Then you can hustle. It starts with that desire. After that, it’s a fairly straightforward process of taking steps in the right direction. Really, anybody who wants to can hustle. It really doesn’t take much. Just an idea, with enough motivation and resources to see it become reality. Disney World wasn’t built in a day, and it’s important to recognize that you may need to scale your ideas to the resources you have available to you–at least for now while you’re getting started.
There are so many benefits of hustling, especially in the uncertain world we live in. More people than ever are changing careers, and often do so multiple times throughout their lifetimes. Sometimes this is personal choice, but often enough there are unforeseen circumstances–such as health challenges, death of a loved one, or getting fired–that necessitate an abrupt, unwelcome, and unanticipated change in direction. Hustling is like taking out an insurance policy against the storms of life.
Imagine your boss calling you today and “informing” you that you’ve been fired. How will that make you feel in your current situation? Do you have the funds to pay the bills while you look for another job? If you’re anything like me, your anxiety started climbing just thinking about it. Now imagine the same situation if you have taken the time to build a side income. There’s a certain peace that comes from being the master of your own fate.
It’s worth the effort.
